Mackinac Island | And Edwardian Era Escape
Friday, November 27, 2009
I had the opportunity to visit Mackinac Island back east a few weeks ago. It is an island, home of the Grand Hotel, where they shot the film Some Where in Time with Christopher Reeves. There is such a quaint little town there. The island itself does not allow any motorized vehicles. Only bikes and horse buggy drawn carriages. Taking a trip by bike around the island I was able to capture some of the beauty of the last of the fall colors. It was very chilly but many flowers were also still in bloom. Fall is one of my favorite seasons by far and is thus something I am passionate in capturing. I love the warm light that comes in through the trees as they start to change color. The crisp air, and the scent of a changing season.
Location: Mackinac Island
My sister. We had a fun mini photo shoot with the fall color.
Some of the true artistry of dinner. I especially loved this sugar rainbow glass accent on my creme brulee.
The mirrored columns of the dining room in the Mackinac hotel were really interesting. And it added a dream like dimension to the room.
Blues and other time period music played with the live band.
The three of us.
Elise McKenna played Jane Seymour in the film. And oil portrait hung in the hall near our room.
Christopher Reeves brother was in attendance as well.
The town on Mackinac Island was a true escape. No cars are allowed on the island and that alone makes for a very peaceful getaway. I will have to return with my husband one day.
Who doesn't love some lovely chocolate art? A chocolate cinderella shoe...
The Somewhere In Time Weekend on Mackinac Island each year select one look alike to recreate portions of the film for a fun reedit they put together and allow some of the attendees to be a part of the film making experience. This was at the theater where they really did a lot of the filming.
My mom is a huge Christopher Reeves fan so she of course wanted a picture at his spot he sat in during the film.
Dining room all ready for a perfect brunch.
Brunch, Edwardian style. What fun hats! They even had a hat making class as one of the activities.
While, chilly, it was such a peaceful bike ride around the island for beautiful vistas like this boat pulled up in this cove.
Outside of the hotel. This picture really only shows 1/3 of it if that.
At the top of the hotel looking out at sunset.
So many fun and quaint Michigan lake front houses.
Looking down on the town.
The Edwardian Fashion show. I saw a few Titanic dress. And a whole lot of inspiration for any seamstress interested in this era of romance and grace.
Feathers and lace feathers and lace.
A close replica of Jane's dress from the film.
I was having so much fun taking pictures of everyone else, that I forgot to walk the show myself.
